First responders were dispatched to the 2100 block of Frizzellburg Road shortly after 2:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, where there was a report of a dwelling fire outside a two-story single-family home.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal, crews from the Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department dispatched 10 firefighters for the one-alarm fire, which was knocked down within 30 minutes once the alarm company transmitted an alert regarding the incident.
“This is a good example of the importance of having working alarms in your home,” a spokesperson for the Pleasant Valley Community Fire Company stated.
The cause of the fire was determined to be related to a lightning strike, officials said. No injuries were reported. The Fire Marshal estimated the damage to the home to be approximately $10,000 for the homeowner.
